San Francisco

We are taking a week to drive the Californian coast from San Francisco to LA. First stop: San Francisco.

We flew up from San Diego on Friday night and found our hotel. We are staying right on the Bay, with a lovely view of the Bay Bridge from our room.

Just up the street is the historic Ferry Building. Our visit lined up perfectly with the weekly Farmer’s Market there, which was a great way to start the day for breakfast.

A couple of cable car rides through the city from there (what fun) and we were at Fisherman’s Wharf walking between the boats and shops, and checking out the seals on Pier 39. The America’s Cup yachts were racing in the Louis Vuitton Cup, and we were able to watch the New Zealand and Italian boats from the restaurant at lunch – and again as we took cycles up toward the Golden Gate Bridge.

Over the bridge on our bikes, bravely beating into the wind, and down to Sausalito, then a ferry ride back across the bay to return our bikes at Fisherman’s Wharf. Beautiful weather, even if I got a little too much sun, and a memorable day.
