bits and pieces in pen and paint

Union Square

A perfect Sydney day! So I went out to sketch a bit more of my neighbourhood. This is my local “village” centre. It was my very first time actually painting on location, rather than going home to add the colours. And it was my first time using a water brush (Pentel Aquash) to apply the watercolours.

When I finished it I was quite mad with myself because I’d put a lot of effort into the pencil sketch and after the watercolouring I didn’t get the colours at all the way I wanted. But I learned a lot in the process – and after dinner at the pub and an excellent pint of locally brewed Pale Ale it seemed to look a lot better. 🙂
